Why Paper and Leaves are not Recommended to Put into GEME?
As you might already know. GEME composters are using aerobic composting method, which is also called "hot composting.".
You might also know that in Carbon and nitrogen ratio is required in hot composting.
Yes, You are correct!
However, there are some reasons you might want to learn about.
GEME's Design Principle
When we design GEME Composter, we have been rethinking to make it as easy as possible for a normal user to use. Just like Steve Jobs inventing iPhone. Our team aims to make the daily use of GEME as simple as possible. Almost every body can use GEME including 3 years old kids or 80 years old ladies. Because the using of GEME is just a using a regular trash bin.
Preconfigure Carbon and Nitrogen Ratio
When you get started, rememnber? There is a big bag of material, we call it GEME Kobold. It already contains a lot of carbon elements, that will be far enough for the future usage. That means in your daily using sencario, you only need to feed GEME with green waste, which most of the food waste are. Hence, the c/n ratio will balance when the auto mixer is rotating.
What happen if I put paper and leaves?
Paper and leaves, in most of the case, they are considered brown waste, also called Carbon material in C/N ratio. Too much Carbon without Nitrogen will make the aerobic composting hard to go. Also the material in leaves and paper are major the lignin. Lignin is not easy to breakdown as it's under the law of natrue.
Another reason is some paper contains not only lignin, but also some paper could be metal toxic.
